Whisk(e)y, is made from the distillation of fermented grain mash. Aged in wooden barrels for a set period of time. Whisky is a tightly regulated spirit, with each country having its own set of rules regarding the mash bill, ageing barrel, length of ageing, ABV % and more. Many types of whisky are available including whisky distillates (known as ‘new makes’ or new make whisky. See the product sheet for more details.
Brandy is distilled wine. Whilst it is commonly made from grape wine, it can be made from any fruit wine. When it is made from other fruits, it is more commonly known as Eaux de vie. Brandies can be aged and unaged and are between 35-60% ABV. Ethimex can supply different types of brandy, cognac, Armagnac and fruit distillates.
Ethimex sources fermented alcohol made from apple and fermented to an ABV of 18%. Fermented alcohol is ideal for use in ready-to-drink beverages such has hard seltzers.
Rum can be made by fermentation and distillation of fermented sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice (eg rhum agricole). It also has no geographical restrictions and can be left unaged or aged. Cachaça follows stricter regulations. It can only be made in Brazil from fresh sugarcane juice. Similar to rum, it can be unaged or aged. Organic, light, dark, Caribbean, Jamaican/high ester rum and Cachaça are available.
Vodka is made by fermentation of grain or other products of agricultural origin, single or multiple distillation and rectification into a neutral spirit. This neutral alcohol is then mixed with demineralised water to the desired alcoholic strength (ABV). For gin, the neutral spirit is first flavoured by re-distilling or maceration with juniper and other botanicals. Gin should have a predominantly juniper flavour. A product of agave plants. Mezcal, meaning “oven-cooked agave” can be made from a variety of agave plants but Tequila can only be made from the Tequilana Weber or Blue Weber agave, with further classifications. Tequila can be placed in two categories, 100% blue agave or tequila mixto which contains a minimum of 51% blue agave and 49% of sugars (such as fructose sugar).
Covering a wide range of spirits, liqueurs are made from a variety of ingredients, such as fruits, herbs, flowers, spices, nuts and creams. Each one has their own distinct and strong flavour. Often consumed as an aperitif or used as an ingredient in cocktails.
Sochu - a traditional Japanese liquor. While it is often made from rice it is also commonly made from barley (mugi-jochu) and sweet potato(imo-jochu)
Rice Ethanol at 96% is also available.
